Matt Axton, whose grandmother co-penned “Heartbreak Hotel,” returns to the city of “The King” with his band Badmoon bringing their original mountain soul, country rock-n-roll to Growlers on Friday, September 11th as part of their "Southbound Tour 2026,” 24 shows in 30 days across 11 states. Opening acts include local Memphis favorites Alexis Jade and the Gemstones and Mary Hatley and the Petty Bitches.

Like his grandmother and father (Hoyt Axton “Joy to the World - Jeremiah was a Bullfrog” “Never Been to Spain” and more), Matt Axton’s music spans genres from folk, rock and country to roots, funk and blues while his signature finger picking guitar style and smooth, rich, baritone voice are all his own. Axton tours nationally playing large festivals and iconic institutions as well as opening up for acts like Midland, Leftover Salmon, Jim Lauderdale, and Nikki Lane.

Axton will showcase singles from his recent EP release - “Musclechops," a groovier, funky side of Axton’s Americana, "Same Old Story, ”a Gothic country-rock powerhouse, “Crazy City,” an atmospheric Americana blues-rock anthem, and more from Axton’s original catalog of modern Americana - and pay tribute to his family’s music with Axton hits.

An all-star Americana night, Axton will be joined by local Memphis acts Alexis Jade & the Gemstones, a blend of country roots with rock ’n’ roll flare and Mary Hatley and the Petty Bitches’ soulful, rock, blues and country.
